Mr B’s Beautiful Larch-clad Garden Room
We’ve loved watching this amazing garden room with larch cladding come to life on social media.
Created by Mr B Carpentry, the “perfectly-sized” room is an insulated timber frame construction with British-grown larch cladding.
Using a jig for a precision
Larch makes a great choice for cladding because of its durability and great value price.
In this case, the cladding was applied vertically, with crisp detailing and narrow boards for a stylish, contemporary look.
We particularly enjoyed seeing how Mr B employed a jig to set a perfect 6mm gap between the boards. The results look fantastic.
From cellist to carpenter
There’s something else we’ve enjoyed about this project: hearing Mr B’s backstory.
Before turning his hand to woodwork, Mr B – aka Barney Morse-Brown – was a professional cellist.
When Covid hit, his professional touring came to an abrupt halt and he was forced to adapt.
Over the course of two years, he reconnected with the skills his brother, an instrument maker, had taught him. This eventually led him to retrain as a carpenter and joiner.
Today, you’ll find him in his North Oxfordshire studio, creating bespoke cabinetry and Garden Rooms for his clients.
Mr B Carpentry says: “We’re nearly finished building this perfectly sized Garden Room here in Northamptonshire. The weather has been relatively kind to us and we’re super pleased with how it’s all looking now”.
We’ve resisted any puns about jigs or harmony. But let’s just say this is beautiful work.
