I regularly use Vastern for purchasing locally grown, sustainably sourced British oak and ash. I then use this for making bespoke fitted and freestanding furniture. The quality of the timber is excellent and reliable. I usually deal with Wolf when I visit who's friendly, knowledgeable and allows time to search for the timber that fits my requirements. The company really cares about what they do, and they promote the conservation and enhancement of British woodlands which is important to me and really sets them apart!

I went to Vastern to get a burr oak waney edge board. Their customer service was excellent, I was given a lot of help and advice to pick out the very board that met my needs to make my river table. I went back to get some planed oak for the legs/base. Thoroughly recommended!Edit Oct 2024: Visited again to get some planed oak boards for a custom lounge light. Customer service and the personal touch was still top notch!

I used Vasterns for some ash for a kitchen job and was very pleased with the quantity to choose from, the quality of the timber and the price. The customer service was also excellent. A guy named Wolf took time to help me pick out everything I needed. Left feeling pleased with my haul of timber and will definitely be back.

Engineered Oak Flooring Features

Oak flooring is the most popular choice and while we think solid oak flooring is hard to beat, engineered oak flooring is increasingly the preference of customers. It’s hard to argue with the fact that engineered floors are quicker to fit and require less equipment and skill than solid floors. Engineered flooring is also more suited for use over underfloor heating because of its superior stability and it is available in a much wider range of pre-finishes.

It pains us to say it (because we don’t make it ourselves) but engineered floors are really quite impressive these days.

We import an excellent range of engineered flooring from our friends at Heywood in the Netherlands. Their flooring is among the best on the market. They use only top-quality birch ply for the base and their gluing, machining and finishing is spot on.

Ordered and fitted some lovely Elm floorboards supplied by Vastern about 14 years ago at the recommendation of Simon Lunt of Boniti. Recently we had a flood that ruined a handful of these. Replacing them could have been a pain, as usually these are only supplied in large lots - as per my original purchase. Wolf from Vastern said he would look to see if there were any unprepared boards in the yard that I could buy and then cut and adjust the thickness for myself, which he did and found there were. So I was already delighted. And then, having researched hiring a thickener to take the boards from 28mm down to 20mm myself Wolf kindly offered to cut and reduce the thickness of the boards specially for me. Not only did this save me a lot of hassle, Wolf sorted all this out for me at a pro rata price roughly equivalent to that available to those buying £1,500 plus orders. For which I am hugely grateful. Beautiful timber, beautiful people!

Absolutely brilliant service, advice and products.These guys were fantastic. They are based 200 miles away from where I live and all communicating from start to finish was excellent. From sending out samples to assisting my delivery driver with loading his van.I ordered the 65mm factory grade t&g oak flooring.This was for a room that I have knocked through that had an existing floor that had been down 20years. I had been advised at other places that I would not get anything to match. But with the help of the guys at Vastern and the guy who fitted my floor originally everything went perfect.In these times of not being able to drive around and visit showrooms to view an item. It is great to find a company that really does look after there customers.Thanks again.

These oak floors come uncoated so that you can apply your oil of choice once the floor is laid. We offer a range of widths, thicknesses and grades to order and we stock a 220mm wide character grade oak for immediate collection.

Pre-finished engineered oak floors

We are proud to offer the Heywood range of pre-finished engineered oak flooring. Manufactured in Europe to exacting standards, the Heywood range combines processes including, smoking, brushing, tumbling and band sawing with tinted oils to create an array of textures and tones.

Profiles

Our engineered oak floors are supplied machined to a tongue and groove profile (T&G) on all four edges. The top edges of the boards are bevelled.

Installation

Acclimatisation

Engineered boards can be laid straight from the packet. There is no need to acclimatise.

Coating care

The coatings on the prefinished oak boards may not be fully cured when you receive your floor. Treat the surface carefully and do not use any cleaning products on the floor for at least two weeks after laying.

Underfloor heating

We do recommend 20mm engineered oak boards for use over underfloor heating.

Coating

Once laid unfinished oak boards will need sanding and finishing with your chosen flooring specific coating. Prefinished boards do not require any further coating.
