Jointed sweet chestnut cladding at Newport Road June 2012
This ultra modern development was built on the site of two former garages. The house was designed as two separate blocks linked via a glazed stairwell. The upper levels of the house are wrapped in jointed sweet chestnut cladding supplied by Vastern Timber. When asked about the choice of cladding material, David Long of David Long Architects commented:
"It was a simple choice to use a renewable, low embodied energy, and locally produced material."
The build which has been reviewed in several architectural publications including Architecture Today and Future Constructor & Architect was selected as a finalist in the Best New-Build category of the Grand Designs Awards 2010.
